Two shores of one bay

Izmir wraps around a deep bay, and daily life moves between its two shores. On the southern side, Konak takes in the seafront Kordon, the Alsancak neighbourhood and the old Kemeraltı bazaar, while Bornova and Buca are large residential districts that also host university campuses and many students. On the northern shore, Karşıyaka is a proud district with its own centre, its own seafront and many long-settled families. Izmir province reaches far inland.
