A province of peninsulas and bays

Muğla is not one city but a coastline of separate towns, each with its own character. Bodrum spreads across a peninsula of bays, from Gümbet and Bitez to Turgutreis, Yalıkavak and Gündoğan, with villas, holiday homes and many people who live there all year. Fethiye combines a working town with Çalış, Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü and the yacht harbour at Göcek, and has a well-established British community. Marmaris and neighbouring İçmeler are resort towns, while the Bozburun peninsula beyond them is a string of small villages. The provincial capital, Menteşe, is a quiet inland university town of old houses with white chimneys, government offices and local families.

Distances matter here

On a map the coast looks compact, but the roads follow the bays and the mountains. Datça sits at the end of a long, narrow peninsula with a winding road, and the Bozburun villages or the far tips of the Bodrum peninsula also take time to reach. Because a florist close to the recipient prepares the bouquet, it does not travel the whole coast, but remote villages may still fall to the next delivery day. Villas, hotels, boats and the off-season

Many addresses in Muğla are villas and holiday homes behind a gate, often in complexes without clear house numbers. Write the complex or villa name, the house number if there is one, and a mobile number. In hotels, the reception receives the flowers; include the guest's name as on the booking and the dates of the stay. If the recipient is on a gulet or a yacht, give a land address where they will be, such as a hotel, a house or a restaurant, with a phone number: flowers are hand-delivered to an address.

Remember that much of this coast is seasonal. Outside the summer some hotels, restaurants and holiday complexes close, and holiday homes may stand empty. Before sending flowers to a resort address in winter, check that the recipient is actually there. Year-round places such as Menteşe, Milas, Fethiye town or Dalyan in Ortaca keep a steadier rhythm.
