Two Aydıns: the coast and the valley

Aydın is really two provinces in one. On the Aegean coast, Kuşadası and Didim are holiday towns full of hotels, holiday villages and summer-house estates, and both have settled communities of foreign residents, Didim in particular being home to many British retirees. Inland, the Büyük Menderes valley is farming country: figs, olives and cotton around Efeler, the provincial centre, and the busy market town of Nazilli. Söke sits between the two, close to the sea but with a wide agricultural plain behind it.

Orders from abroad tend to follow the same split. The coast receives birthday and anniversary flowers for people who live there or are on holiday; the valley towns and their villages receive flowers for parents and grandparents whose children and grandchildren now live in Europe or in Istanbul and Izmir.

Hotels, holiday villages and summer estates

Most holiday deliveries go to the hotels along Kuşadası's beaches and the Davutlar and Güzelçamlı coast, or to Didim's Altınkum. Hotel and holiday-village deliveries are made to reception: write the guest's full name exactly as it appears on the booking, the room number if you know it, and the dates of the stay. All-inclusive resorts usually do not let outside couriers onto the grounds, so reception passes the flowers on.

Summer-house estates work differently. Many have a security gate, and outside the summer months a lot of the houses stand empty. Give the estate name, block and house number, and make sure someone will actually be there. In Didim and Akbük, where many owners split the year between Türkiye and their home country, it is worth checking that the recipient is in town before you order.

Inland villages and family occasions

In Efeler, Nazilli, Germencik and İncirliova, many deliveries go to village houses rather than apartment blocks. A village address works best with the neighbourhood (mahalle) name, a landmark everyone knows, such as the mosque or the village coffeehouse, and a phone number for the recipient.

Efeler is also a university town, and students in dormitories are a common birthday recipient; dormitories normally accept flowers at the front desk, so include the dormitory name and the student's full name. For families, the everyday reasons to send flowers are engagements, weddings, bayram visits and new grandchildren: our new baby flowers or a bright bouquet for the new mother are popular choices for a hospital or home visit.

Timing on the coast and in the hills

In central Efeler, Kuşadası, Didim and Nazilli, orders placed before 14:00 Türkiye time can usually be delivered the same day. Hill villages in Karacasu, Bozdoğan and Karpuzlu may need until the next delivery day. In July and August the coastal roads around Kuşadası and Didim are busy, so plan for a delivery window rather than an exact hour.
