Where flowers go in Trabzon

A large share of orders to Trabzon go to Ortahisar, the district that covers the city centre: the main square, the slopes of Boztepe, the newer seafront apartment blocks and the student flats around Karadeniz Technical University. Akçaabat to the west, famous across Türkiye for its meatballs, and Yomra to the east, next to the airport, are close enough to the centre to be the next most common addresses.

The bigger story, though, is the villages. Families from Of, Sürmene, Araklı, Tonya and Vakfıkebir left for Istanbul or Europe decades ago without ever cutting ties to home. Many orders from abroad go to a parent's house on one of these green hillsides.

• Scattered village houses. In Black Sea villages, houses are spread across steep slopes rather than lined up along a street, and many have no house number. Alongside the village and neighbourhood name, describe a landmark: the mosque, the school, a shop, or a well-known neighbour. Always include the recipient's phone number.
• The yayla season. In summer, many families move up to highland pastures (*yayla*) above Maçka, Çaykara or Akçaabat, and in winter those houses stand empty. Before ordering, check whether the recipient is in the village, the yayla or the city that week. Remote village and yayla addresses may receive delivery the next day, and if the address can't be reached we contact you.
• Uzungöl hotels. Hotel deliveries around Uzungöl go to reception; add the guest's name, room number and arrival date.
• Hospitals. Give the ward and room number. Intensive care units usually don't accept flowers, so the bouquet is left at the information desk or with a relative.
