Cappadocia and the rest of Nevşehir

Most people know Nevşehir as Cappadocia, and much of the province's flower traffic follows the fairy chimneys. Göreme, Uçhisar and the underground city of Kaymaklı all lie within the central Merkez district, alongside Nevşehir city itself with its hospitals, family neighbourhoods and Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University. Ürgüp, which includes Ortahisar and Mustafapaşa, is the other big hotel area, while Avanos on the Kızılırmak river is the pottery town. Further south, Derinkuyu is known for its underground city; Gülşehir, Acıgöl and the spa town of Kozaklı are quieter and largely rural. Hacıbektaş is home to the lodge of the dervish Hacı Bektaş Veli and fills with visitors during the commemoration held there every August.

Cave hotels, proposals and anniversaries

Many orders to Cappadocia are surprises: a proposal after a balloon flight, an anniversary in a cave suite, a honeymoon that needs one more touch. Hotel deliveries go to reception, so write the guest's full name, the name the booking is under and the check-in date, and say in the address note if the flowers should stay a surprise. The old streets of Göreme and Uçhisar are steep and narrow, and some cave hotels can only be reached on foot for the last stretch, which is another reason reception is the handover point. Balloons take off before dawn and guests are usually out exploring all day; flowers left at reception wait safely until they get back. Family homes and village elders

Away from the tourist triangle, Nevşehir is a central Anatolian province of family homes and farming villages. If you grew up here, the address is not a hotel but your mother's flat in the city or your grandparents' house in a village near Acıgöl or Gülşehir. Winters on the plateau are cold and snowy and village roads can be slow, so village addresses may be delivered the next day; if an address can't be reached, we contact you. A landmark in the address note, such as the mosque, the muhtar's office or the school, helps a lot. Same-day delivery is standard in metropolitan provinces, and Nevşehir is not one of them, so for a fixed date, like the Saturday before Turkish Mother's Day, order a day ahead.

For elders in a village, a respectful tone matters more than a clever one; a simple line wishing them health and sending love from the whole family is ideal.
