Industry, coast and farmland

Tekirdağ is the Thracian province stretching between Istanbul and the Dardanelles, and it has three quite different sides. Süleymanpaşa, the provincial centre, is a seaside city with Namık Kemal University, the main hospitals and a long waterfront, and it is where most birthday, anniversary and new-baby flowers go. To the east, Çorlu, Çerkezköy, Kapaklı and Ergene form a major industrial belt. Home, not the factory gate

Large factories in the organised industrial zones usually don't let a florist past the gate, and someone working a shift can't easily leave the line to collect a bouquet. For workers, a home address is almost always the better choice. Most of the newer housing in Çorlu, Çerkezköy and Kapaklı is in gated sites with a security booth, so write the site name, block, flat number and a phone number the guard can call. Main roads can get congested around shift changes, which makes a reachable contact number even more important.

Summer homes and vineyard villages

Marmara Ereğlisi, Şarköy and beaches such as Kumbağ in Süleymanpaşa are lined with summer houses, and many of them stand empty through the winter. Before you order, check where the recipient is staying that week. Şarköy, together with Mürefte, is also known for its vineyards, and in the villages along the coast road a landmark in the address note makes the florist's job much easier.
